Methods to Check accuracy of the Ascendant (Birth Time Rectification techniques)

The rising sign (the word 'Sign' is the English equivalent of Rasi) is the Lagna Rasi, also known as the ascendant. We've already discussed how to construct a birth chart in relation to the Lagna but to calculate the Ascendant, we must rely on birth data, which may or may not be accurate for a variety of reasons.

So, before making any predictions about the native, an astrologer should check the accuracy of the Lagna position in the birth chart. There are several methods for determining whether Lagna is right.

  • The Lagna may fall where Chandra is, or in the 5th or 9th house from Chandra's position, or in the 5th or 9th house from Chandra's location, according to Sasthidas (i.e. the lord of the Rasi where Chandra is placed).
  • Calculate the 7th Nakshatra from the Nakshatra associated with Ravi if a person is born in the first part of the day. The Rasi suggested that Nakshatra would come under the influence of Lagna.
  • Please keep in mind that each Rasi is made up of two and a quarter Nakshatras.
  • Calculate the 12th Nakshatra from Ravi's Nakshatra if a person is born in the second part of the day. His Lagna Rasi will be the Rasi indicated by the Nakshatra.
  • The Lagna Rasi is determined by the 17th Nakshatra from Ravi's Nakshatra if a person is born in the first half of the night.
  • If a child is born after midnight, or in the second half of the night. Lagna-Rasi will fall in the 24th Nakshatra from Ravi's Nakshatra. Purvashada, the 24th Nakshatra from Satavisha, denotes Dhanu Rasi. In the case of Harihar Majumdar (Jyotishasastri), the author of Hindu Science of the Future, his birthtime was at 2 A.M, which is after midnight, Ravi is linked with Satavisha in the horoscope, and the Lagna is in Dhanu.

Difference of Opinion about birth time rectification

On a few topics, several prominent astrologers have differing viewpoints. The following are the details:

Count 12 Nakshatra to determine Lagna Rasi if a person is born after midday and within sunset from Ravi's constellation. If a person is born before midnight, the 19th Nakshatra will be the Lagna, and if they are born after midnight, the 24th Nakshatra from the constellation linked with Ravi will be the Lagna. These guidelines are really useful in more than 60% of instances.

There are also additional issues to consider. We all know that some Nakshatras fall into two Rasis. In such circumstances, real Lagna Rasi is impossible to discover.

Some other methods to rectify birth time

The amount produced by adding the number of Rasi where Rahu is placed, the number of Lagna Rasi, and the number of Ravi (Ravi's number is always 1) must be divided by 7. If the residual is an even number, the chart is for a female kid; if the remaining is an odd number, the chart is for a male child.
For example, if Rahu is in Simha Rasi, the fifth Rasi in the Zodiac, Ravi is 1, and the Lagna is in Dhanu Rasi, the grand total is 15, which is divided by seven, and the remaining is one, an odd number. As a result, it is a male's birth chart.

When a person's Ascendant falls in a Firey or Airy sign, his weight is very less.

Vrihaspati, Sukra, and Chandra are watery planets, therefore if a person's Lagna is in an earthy or watery Rasi, the person may be obese and heavy. If any of these planets are linked to the Lagna, the person may be overweight. Various planets' aspects on the Lagna, Chandra, or both produce different outcomes, such as:

  • If Rahu's aspect falls on the Lagna or Chandra, the native may appear thin and dry, with a dry skin texture and little radiance.
  • The native may be well-built, robust, and sturdy if Mangat aspects Lagna or Chandra (especially Lagna).
  • If it is Sukra, he is amiable and phlegmatic, with huge attractive eyes, curling hair, and an elegant look.
  • If Sani is aspecting the Lagna or Chandra, or if he is placed in the Lagna or is connected with Chandra, the native will be slender and skinny, with deep eyes and no fat on his body.
  • Ravi represents a robust body; if he aspects or conjoins with the Lagna, the native will have a strong physique, a bald head, a dignified walk, and a sombre demeanour.
  • If Chandra is linked with or aspects the Lagna, the person will have a magnificent appearance, a gentle physique, and be a handsome guy with curly hair and huge round eyes.
  • If Budha is linked or aspects the Lagna, the native's complexion will be greenish like Durba grass and he would be of average build.
  • The planetary aspect on or relationship with the Lagna or Chandra may provide various complexion, build, and demeanour as stated previously, and by scrutinising his reading and using rational thinking, one may modify his interpretation and determine the actual Lagna Rasi.
The appearance, colour, and character of a native may be discerned using the Navamsa of Lagna or Lagnadhipathi (Lord of Lagna). Planets aspecting the Lagna or Lagnapathi can impact a man's temperament, complexion, and appearance. These topics were already covered in great detail.

If Sani, Mangal, Rahu, or Ketu are in the third house from the Lagna, the younger brother or sister may not live long ( i.e. there is the possibility of their early death ).

If the lord of the Lagna is in conjunction with malefic planets, or if the Lagna-lord is aspected by inauspicious planets, or if the Lagna-lord is hemmed between malefics, or if that lord occupies any dusthan ( 6th, 8th, or 12th position ), the native may not be in good health. However, it should be noted that if the Lord of Lagna occupies the 6th place from Lagna without being aspected by or in combination with any malefic, the native will be in great health.

If the Lagna or lagnadhipathi ( Lagna-lord ) is not connected with or aspected by any benefic, the native's path to prosperity will be difficult.

When the Lagna, Lagnapathi, or Chandra are aspected by all of the planets, the native shines very brightly in nearly all aspects of life, material or spiritual. This magnificent yoga is depicted in Mahapravu Shri Chaitanya Dev's horoscope.

Whenever the lord of the Lagna is weak and is aspected by Sani, the person may face numerous adversities in life, including financial loss owing to the emperor's anger or the actions of deceptions.

It goes without saying that different homes ( Rasis ) or bhavas represent different sections of the body. If the lord of Dusthan aspects or conjoins with a certain bhava or house ( Rasi ), the native may suffer from ailments related to the portion of the body represented by that bhava or Rasi. This adverse outcome may occur during the Dasa-Antardasa of those malevolent planets.
