Phaladeepika is an impressive creation of Mantreswara whose
family deity was Sukuntalamba, who came from the Tinnevelly district of
southern India. He flourished during the XVI century of the Christian era. His
concept of Astrology was phenomenal in several ways and was different from
many others. Mantreswara gives emphasis on the effects of transits of planets. He
has a great contribution to astrology for his works in the effects of bhavas
(houses). His chapter on yogas reveals many astrological truths. The
Sarvatobhadrachakra has also been explained in detail in the book.
The sixteenth sloka in Adhaya III which was a little
confusing has been corrected in the book “Phaladeepika” by Panditabhusana V.
Subrahmanya Sastri. This book was, however incomplete, but efforts have now been
made to present the public with the complete text. V. Subramanya Sastri has done path-breaking research on the book and found some of the missing slokas of the
Adhaya XXVIII.
