Rahu and the Consciousness
Rahu is a planet related to consciousness and it doesn't fail in giving or manifesting its results. When the effects of Rahu is malefic in the chart, all the materialistic gains and prestige can be lost. We must keep in mind that Rahu is a demon. When the effects of Rahu is malefic hardships and struggles are encountered in life, which gives rise to universal consciousness. Rahu makes a person rigid and ignorant (not able to take wise decisions) and it gives mental worries and stress. The person doesn't experience peace or satisfaction and this is what leads to religious/spiritual conflict for that person and eventually becomes a gateway for his final liberation. So, it becomes important to know separately about Rahu as to how it manifests results, what are its special characteristics. I believe that by knowing about the 9 planets and how they behave, our journey of life becomes easy, our perceptions about the world changes, and these changes could be very good.
Hence, we can say that the ultimate result of 'Rahu' is to give birth or rise to spiritual consciousness and once the person has experienced the rise of spiritual consciousness in oneself then, Rahu gives very auspicious results. So, if a person is already spiritually enlightened or is engaged in doing spiritual practices or has a spiritual goal in life then, Rahu will give good results to that person. Maharishi Parashar has stated in 'Avtaar Kathan Adhyah' that all the 9 planets are the incarnations of the Lords. So, when the planets are the lords then, the troubles and pains suffered due to them are there to bring an ultimate change and to understand that change and the reason behind it is the remedy for the Rahu. Rahu is a shadow planet. It doesn't have a physical existence. So it gives troubles and pains in a person's life at the soul's level.
When the ill effects of Rahu are being suffered, the soul is shattered. It means, that going through the sufferings caused by Rahu, developing spiritualism in oneself, and learning the lessons that Rahu wants us to learn, is the best remedy, to the sufferings from Rahu.

Now the question here is, what is the lesson that Rahu wants us to learn?
Rahu is a knower of all the 3 lokas. Rahu takes you on the path that gives spirituality through experiencing miseries. Rahu wants you to understand the mysteries of nature and lead a life in harmony with it to attain the final Moksha. Because Rahu gives miseries while the other half of it i.e. Ketu leads to final liberation. Rahu & Ketu cannot be seen separately. There are many similarities between them. They are always 180 degrees apart. Although in books Rahu & Ketu and their effects are mentioned differently, in a horoscope they behave the same way. If we analyze their results separately, we will not arrive at the correct results.
The Gateway of Liberation through Rahu
Rahu with its effects of making one suffer opens up the gateway of spirituality. Ketu is also known as a 'Mokshakarak' (significator of Moksha). So, the best remedy for Rahu is to take the lessons that it wants to teach, and put them into practice in life. This can only be the best Remedy possible for Rahu. You may fight against the troubles and sufferings that are the effects of Rahu as long as you have the strength. But when you are done, surrender and take the step back and that is the Remedy for Rahu or else it will result in losses. It may also bring in circumstances where the ego of a person is hurt. So let it hurt and keep calm or else, along with ego being hurt it will also result in certain losses. Rahu brings problems in those areas of life, in which house it is sitting in, say for an example, Rahu in 4th house, there is no peace and tranquillity at the home and there are fights on one single point or issue. When the person let that issue go and accepts that nothing can be done about it then there will be peace. This is the only remedy I have known, for those going through immense sufferings due to Rahu. Those suffering in the Rahu period will not have sound sleep at all and this is the only solution to problems.
But what I have observed is, wherever Rahu is posited in a chart, it is most difficult for the person to surrender in those areas of life. It is very difficult, almost impossible. Surrendering in those areas of life means leaving everything of life behind and let go and that is the area of life with which our ego is associated with. This is very true!
The Axis of Rahu-Ketu
The axis on which Rahu-Ketu is posited and especially when there is 'Kalsarp Dosh' in a horoscope then, it spoils that axis. If Rahu-Ketu is posited in the 1st & 7th house and also has a 'Kalsarpdosha' then it will badly affect the health as well as the married life of the native especially in the period, of Rahu or Ketu Dashas. I have an observation, wherever Rahu is posited in a chart, it gives native a kind of stiffness or rigidity. i.e. the person gets stuck to that point so, if Rahu is afflicted, sticking to that particular point can itself destroy one's entire life, like Rahu in the 6th house, the native will give his entire life to thinking about his enemies. His enemies may have forgotten, moved ahead in life, or may have even died but, he will not forget them. He will talk about them, write about them, or whatever but will not forget him. This a peculiar quality of Rahu that in whichever house, it is posited, it has a good hold over it and if the Rahu is badly afflicted then, it becomes extremely difficult to escape its hold/grasp. One can escape it only using one's intelligence and wisdom. Changing one's thoughts using wisdom is the only way to escape Rahu's grasp. This is the best solution. But, it is hard to practice. Yes, it is difficult to practice but, this is the best remedy and what I have observed is that due to the sufferings caused by Rahu, a person has to surrender at last. As soon as the person lets the ego go and surrenders to the supreme, he experiences the bliss of happiness and peace in life. Please try this remedy and give me feedback if you get any positive results, maybe even after 6 months. I will be very happy to know this. Also, if somebody has already done this remedy on their own, then please do let us know. There can be 2 more remedies for suffering caused by Rahu. Rahu may also cause sufferings from diseases. The disease caused by Rahu can not be diagnosed. One keeps on getting tests done, but no disease can be diagnosed and the suffering continues. When the disease reaches a critical condition then only it gets diagnosed. So, Rahu gives suffering to an extent where you lend up to the hospital.
Remedies for Rahu
Remedy for Rahu here could be like visiting a patient in the hospital and help him in whatever way possible. So, if Rahu wants to take someone to the hospital by making them sick, the remedy could be, willingly going to the hospital and helping the patient. This is again a very good remedy for Rahu. Similarly, Rahu also gets the native into some kind of dispute or litigations. In the Dasha (Mahadasha or Antardasha) period of Rahu, if a person goes to court by himself and helps somebody who is truthful and is on a righteous path but is not having enough money for the legal fight and then it is also a very good remedy for Rahu. This means, wherever Rahu wants to send us forcefully, we should go there willingly and help others. These are the remedies of Rahu with which one can avoid the sufferings to be caused by the Rahu or at least reduce them.
But if I tell you the truth the sufferings caused by Rahu can not be avoided. The sufferings could be reduced, you may get the strength to bear the pain and will change your mindset and thought process but the suffering is inevitable. These remedies need to be practised regularly. Doing it for once won't fetch any result and is to be done regularly. Along with it, keep on the terrace, bread with yoghurt spread on it daily for the birds. Rahu is also associated with ancestors. Also, we can feed fish, take wheat flour (or any other flour) mixed with sugar, and put it near the ant's holes. This can also pacify the ill effects of Rahu. These things need to be practised routinely. Especially by the people who have their Rahu periods running. If you are not able to perform remedial measures, it indicates some further struggles ahead. If Rahu is afflicted in a horoscope, Rahu Dasha / Antardasha is running also the transit is bad then there have to be problems related to ancestors 100% and it can be felt. It feels like some supernatural problem or effect. The main factor behind success is self-control. With what feeling are you performing these deeds (remedial measures)? what is the basic motive behind it? This all holds a major significance.
A Need for Change
There's one thing I firmly believe in, You may be doing a remedy for a planet but, unless you bring about a change in yourself from within that means you haven't received the blessings. It means when there's a change in your deeds, your nature changes, or maybe reverse, when your nature changes, the deeds will change. It can be either way. We have lost our path in today's time and age. We use all these Vedic rituals and remedies for our selfish interests. All our Vedic remedies ultimately guide us to be more compassionate and loving. We get angry with little things but unless we learn to be compassionate and loving, we can never achieve the highest goal of our lives for which we are born. As the lesson of Lord Buddha is to be compassionate towards all. Rahu’s nature of destruction is that of the churning of an ocean. It gives immense suffering. It happens all of a sudden and lets the person think many a thing in the attempt to get rid of it. It happens all of a sudden and many such unexpected events happen that are beyond one's imagination (in the period of Rahu). But, only after this churning of the ocean, there comes the elixir. The person who suffers the miseries caused by Rahu learns the lesson that it wants to teach and changes himself, and is then eligible for this elixir called Moksha.
What I have observed is the Mahadasha of Rahu makes the native suffer initially. A lot of suffering but just for nearly half of the period. In the latter half, it gives unexpected success. As per the Puranic story, in the churning of the ocean, poison came first. The elixir came out later. So, what I am trying to say is the only one who has drank the poison becomes eligible to taste the elixir. The one who has gone through all the adversities has changed accordingly, has been true and committed to one's duty, now becomes worthy of having all the success. Material success as well as spiritual growth.
Worshipping of Bhairav and Rahu
Another remedy for Rahu is to worship lord 'Bhairav'. Also, worshipping lord 'Shiva' helps. All the 9 planets can be pleased by worshipping lord 'Shiva' or touching the 'Peepal' tree (Fig tree) and reciting the mantra 'Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay' This is also a good remedy. Unless all these are remedies are done with complete devotion, they may not render desired results and when done with complete devotion, it gives the best solution to the problems. Rahu also denotes, grandparents and elderly people in the home. Taking care of them and giving them respect is also one of the remedies for Rahu. Any remedy for any planet can be categorized into 3 levels.
First is reciting mantras and performing Vedic rituals. With it, the ill effects can be reduced. And as everybody knows, astrology is based on the cause and effect relationship. Whatever sufferings are experienced they are as per our wrong deeds or Sins committed in the past lives. If somebody goes through immense suffering due to Rahu, then as a first step, reciting Mantras and tantric mantras may help get some relief.
Donations for Rahu
As a second measure, comes the donation. As we have discussed before, about feeding birds, Ants, etc., then the results can be attained faster and better. Circumstances start turning into favourable ones. But, the best of all the remedies, is to bring about change in oneself. Controlling oneself. One has to understand why is he suffering? One has to understand this secret of nature. I believe that nobody can suffer more than that deserved. A person suffers as per his past deeds. Neither more than that nor less. If we do remedies at all the 3 levels continuously, without a fail, success is certain. We can then win over destiny.
In whichever house Rahu is posited, the way Rahu manifests its results is... first of all we get greedy about that area of life. e.g., Rahu in 4th house, native desires of having a palatial house. One may even try to get it by unfair means. Also, if Rahu is 4th from Lagna, Moon, or Mars in a chart, and is also afflicted, then that house has a Vastu dosha and that house can be nearby a graveyard or at the graveyard itself and there could be some spiritual problem at home.
Damaged ceiling and Pitra Dosha
Another point, that I was being told by a very knowledgeable person, Whether you have Rahu's Dasha / Antardasha or not, how you can find Rahu is giving bad results in a horoscope is when the ceiling in the house starts to leak or break. Rahu is also associated with the 'Pitra Dosh'. Rahu when afflicted, gives the results of 'Pitra Dosha'. Normally, we perform one more remedy for Rahu. As it is debilitated in Jupiter's Sign, while moping the floor, add some pure turmeric powder to the water. This is to bring in the energy of Jupiter and people got some good results with this. But my point was, whichever house Rahu is in there, no matter how good that person is, will do some bad or unfair deeds relating to that house. The native will initially have that greed to attain the heights, acquire the maximum, etc., now once he realizes the wrong he has done and let go of that greed then that house comes in somewhat control. As in the churning of the ocean, the problem is that Rahu splits from where it is positioned. In 'Upachaya' Houses(3,6,10,11) it gives good results.
Dasha and Antardasha of Rahu
Now, there is some conflicting opinion of scholars on judging how the Rahu Dasha would be? One sect of scholars says that if 1st Antardasha has been troublesome then the rest of the whole Dasha would be good. Another group of scholars has an opposite belief that if 1st Antardasha of Rahu (i.e. Rahu-Rahu) has been troublesome then the whole of the Rahu Dasha is going to give bad results. There is one more belief that whatever Rahu gives success, it takes it back at the last of the end of his Dasha. This is a very well accepted rule in astrology but I haven't found it working 100%
I have my opinion on this. Rahu gives dissatisfaction, this feeling starts as soon as the Rahu Dasha begins. Despite having everything, it gives a kind of dissatisfaction and unknown fear. This begins with the commencement of the Rahu period. In the Antardasha of Jupiter in Rahu Dasha, it gives financial success but also gives health issues. I have seen many charts and found them correct. The most inauspicious Antardasha in Rahu is that of Saturn. Loss of position, increase in problems, increase in losses even if this period goes well for somebody still, he will receive sufferings from his people. Many a time in Rahu-Jupiter Dasha, there could also be some attack on the native. By attack I mean, it could be an attack by the enemy or health troubles. I have also noticed in a few of the cases where there have been problems related to sports in the Rahu-Jupiter period. In almost 90% of the cases, Rahu - Saturn is always inauspicious. Now if we look at Rahu-Mercury Antardasha, there's some improvement but there persists dissatisfaction in this period as well.
Different Planetary Sub-Periods in Rahu Period
- When Ketu Antardasha comes to Rahu, there is a huge change. In this period, the native may feel that there are some losses, and there are some but this period makes a base for the Antardasha ahead so there can come a U-Turn.
- Rahu-Venus period is the most favourable one. Rahu- Venus period is of 3 years and if Venus is strong in the natal chart, then there comes a big change in this period.
- Sun is not a friend of Rahu yet, in the Rahu-Sun period, the good results of Venus continue.
- In the Rahu-Moon period, there's a lot of financial gains. It gives financial gains that are unexpected but at the same time, there remain some mental worries.
- Rahu-Mars period will be kind of a shock. It gives a big loss but it is just one loss but this period can also be considered good for achievements. If Rahu holds a good position in a natal chart, it gives such accomplishments in life that are beyond imagination. As we say, that Rahu matures at the age of 42 yrs, which I too have observed many times. But Rahu starts manifesting its results from the age of 36 yrs. e.g. Rahu in the 10th house will give career-related results in the 42nd year but it may also start from 36 yrs and till 45 yrs of age. If the Rahu Mahadasha comes after the age of 36-40 it is not that harmful but if it comes between the age of 20-30 when there are already many changes going on in one's life regarding marriage, job, etc., then this certainly disturbs the native.
Ashwagandha and Brahmi- A remedy from Ayurveda for Rahu
If Rahu is afflicted in a chart, in the Rahu Dasha, there comes a lot of problems related to technology. Rahu and Mercury never go well together. There's one more remedy mentioned in 'Ayurveda' is 'Ashwagandha' & 'Brahmi'. Nowadays it is easily available at medical shops in liquid form or even in capsules. In Ayurveda, changes can be brought with the help of certain diets. One only needs to know about them. As far as I know, taking 'Ashwagandha’ helps strengthening up the nerves and as mentioned in the 'Shastras', Rahu behaves like Saturn. Saturn signifies nerves in the body and thus Rahu if afflicted or in native is in its Dasha then it also gives diseases related to nerves. Nerves-related issues, abdominal diseases, etc.

Now it has been so spread through the internet that if there's any problem related to computers or phones, people will blame it on retrograde Mercury. But it is not so. Rahu must be afflicted in one's horoscope to give such results. It is the Rahu that signifies the internet. Even though communication comes under Mercury and nowadays as we call it, communication & technology, so it is a combination of both, Mercury and Rahu. So it is the combination of these 2 planets (afflicted) that leads to such situations (issues related to technology and break of communication etc.) Seshadri Iyer had written in his book way back in 1941 or maybe 1951, the book called 'New techniques of predictions' that we know astrology partially, or even if we know complete (what we believe is complete), We look at a horoscope and straight away tells the native that this is happening due to Rahu or due to Mercury, etc., (or any other planet) whereas there could be some other planet responsible for the problems in life, but you are putting a blame on another planet. It is like somebody else is the culprit, I am innocent but you are blaming me. So, I am sure to get angry. If not today then maybe tomorrow. This is a serious sin committed by Astrologers.

Seshadri Iyer had written so much over this topic. He was a genius astrologer. If he said that Jupiter will not transit beyond the 4th house then, before Jupiter transit from the 4th house, the person would die. He used to give it in writing and put a stamp on it. This is how he used to do it. We many times blamed Rahu, Saturn, etc. This is very wrong for any computer-related problem, we blame, Mercury retrograde. When Mercury gets retrograde, it shows us our karma in the current lifetime. Whatever lies that we speak, whatever wrong speech we deliver, foul language, etc., Mercury stores all that energy, like many times we abuse others over the phone. We do a lot of gossip over the phone. The result of all this is experienced during the period of Mercury retrograde. During Mercury retrograde, people who have Mercury in the 1st house or the Moon Rashi suffer the most. As compared to others, these are the people who suffer more. Even if it is the 3rd lord, then also it troubles a lot. Depending upon, the position of Rahu, in which sign it is, in which Nakshatra it is, what are the aspects it receives, etc., it is a matter of detailed study as to what results will Rahu manifest in a chart. But one thing is sure that suffering can never be more than achievement and the pleasures relished. The person should not be revengeful for the sufferings that arise from those pleasures. If you have to move ahead, if you want to change your fate then you must not react or take revenge for the sufferings caused. If you react to such sufferings, it leads to birth to another Karma and you get trapped in the vicious circle of life and death.
Marriage problems
I would like to explain with the help of an example., there are problems in the married life... a husband is facing problems due to his wife then, he must not react to it and leave it to God. If he does so, whatever sufferings he has to go through, shall pass. But if you react to it, then whatever you have to go through will remain the same but there will be added new karma, results of which, will have to be experienced in the lifetimes to come. That wife will again be a wife in the next life. Yes, so in the next lie also you will have to suffer from the wife. This is a simple example that I have tried to explain. If we look at it from the perspective of spirituality, no person is capable of causing suffering. If we are experiencing it through somebody then also it is the will of God and this I have experienced for myself as well as for others, that when the due sufferings have been over, the same person becomes friends with you. Hence, the person who has to change his destiny has to be free from any reaction against suffering or people causing them. In India, the maximum husband does this remedy without even being asked to. For a happy married life, don't pay much attention to little things and ignore them. Like the way, you have said... and agree with your wife. Whether it is wife or business, both are seen from the 7th house like as we say, if there is an ailment, take a medicine for it. Take the tablet, put some ointment, etc., do the remedy for it but if we don't do the remedy for it, the problem aggravates. If it's a matter of business, and your employee or partner or any other person is cheating or creating troubles for you and you don't react then they take you for granted. If somebody is spreading false rumours about your business or you, and in my case, I have done it that I have allowed people to talk unpleasant things about me. Others hear people talking bad about me or my business and I don't defend them, then they believe the other person must be telling the truth. If I stand in front of the mirror and say to myself "I am a handsome Man" one day, I will start believing it. Yes, it does affect the belief system.
What I mean is it is for those couples, when there are too many problems in their married life or if Rahu is placed in 7th house, it may also give separation. That separation must be avoided somehow. One must try to solve the matter amicably through discussions and compromise. It is also seen in certain cases, where people have compromised, their life ahead has been blissful even though they have Rahu or Ketu posited in the 7th house. Nowadays, people lack patience, and one most important thing is if you want your destiny in the long run you may react to try and defend yourself but not from the revenge point of view. Your point of view has to be good. I have seen that the feel of revenge does come. I don't mind admitting it. That feeling of revenge does come into one's mind. To master Rahu, compromise is the key. In whichever house Rahu is placed, to master it, compromise there, lower your ego, and compromise. Irrespective of who was right or wrong. All that matters is ego. Once the ego is reduced the problem is solved. It is for the benefit of all. This is a secret. I would like to quote here an example... King Ashoka was once going somewhere along with one of his ministers... King Ashoka by mistake put his foot on a beggar, and to apologize, he touched his feet. The minister didn't like this. Minister asked king Ashoka, that you are the king and he is a beggar, why are you touching his feet? King Ashoka replied, that our mind is filled with ego, if that is removed then there will be no difference between him and me. Adi Guru Shankaracharya Ji has said the way cloud-born with the Sun covers it, the same way, the ego that is born with Soul covers it up. The same thing has been stated by the Kabirdas Ji When 'I' was there, God was not there now, God is there, so 'I' am not ('I' is ego) Ego is very strong in the human race. Everybody wants to hear good about them, praises about them. Kabir Ji has not talked about anything. He simply says, "When 'I' existed, God did not, now God is there, so there is no ‘I’. When the ego is gone there rises the soul. This is what Rahu aims to do. It breaks one's ego. The more you bow down and the more you understand the law of nature, the more you will be happy. We do so much of remedy for Rahu. Astrologers have stocked up so many remedies. The astrologers who have the most of the remedies are the most successful.
Gayatri Mantra
There could be no better remedy for all the 9 planets. Rahu where sits, ego may spoil that aspect of life but the day ego is diminished, all problems are solved. Our Rishis / Sages had devised this instrument called Astrology to seek Moksha (final liberation). Once we understand the law of nature and we learn to live in harmony with it, our overall perspective towards life changes. If you have understood about Rahu, your sufferings will remain half. People in the west, who learn Vedic Astrology, generally emphasize theory. They do the theories but we are crazy after the techniques. There's one more remedy for Rahu and it is Gayatri Mantra. There's no pilgrimage like river Ganga, There's no God like lord Keshav (Krishna) and there has been no Mantra like 'Gayatri Mantra' in the past nor will there be in the future. I have mentioned earlier, Rahu gives mental unrest. The person gets confused thinking about what is to be done, how to take revenge, and all and gets further entrapped. Reciting 'Gayatri Mantra' gives pure thoughts and makes a person wise. It will make you understand the cause of suffering and prevents the human from creating further Karmas. The person who recites the Gayatri Mantra with all his heart can never do anything wrong. In Gayatri Mantra, we ask God for wisdom and purity of mind.
Rahu is associated with nerves (nerves from the brain), so if we have wisdom, we do good deeds. If we do good deeds, the results are bound to be favourable for sure. If Rahu Jupiter is conjunct, in Nadi astrology it is said that the person was a great grandfather and now has taken birth as a son, this is one of the beliefs. Another belief is that this conjunction gives the person reach extreme heights in one's life.
Guru Chandal Yog- Rahu and Jupiter Combination
This is a fact of today's age people having Rahu-Jupiter reach the pinnacle in their life but the only condition is that Jupiter must be strong in the chart. If Jupiter is strong then this combination is considered good, but if Jupiter is weak, it may also give rise to many problems. All 9 planets are Gods. No God manifests bad results, they are all auspicious and manifests good results. Rahu is an intelligent planet. It can also be seen as a diplomatic planet. I have observed that Rahu has some connection with water. If Rahu is bad in a horoscope or during transit, it leads to leakages of tap in the house or the Air conditioners go out of order. Also, if Rahu is bad in a horoscope then never buy an Air conditioner that has rust. Some Astrologer told me about this and when I got that Air conditioner properly serviced and repaired, then my life was back on track. In a couple of other cases, I have observed, a person suffering from Rahu faces problems with AC and If there's a problem in AC then it brings problems in life as well. Rahu behaves as Saturn does. If anything is breaking in the house or there is some leakage in the ceiling, this means Rahu and Saturn both are giving bad results. There's some combination of technology and water. Like if there's Rahu moon are conjunct then we see some mental issues in the native. It gives more illusions.
